Ergonomic raised garden beds and edible ecosystems

Waist-high beds mean gardening without kneeling. We build the same accessible, drip-irrigated ecosystems we gift to seniors and disabled veterans through our relief program.

Cedar raised garden beds with vegetables and drip irrigation lines along a wide accessible path in a Texas backyard

Raised garden beds and accessible edible gardens in Austin, TX

What you get

A growing space at the right height for the person using it, with soil that actually produces in Central Texas heat.

The problem

Planting into native clay, or into a bed too low to reach comfortably, ends the same way: a short season, a sore back, and a bed that goes unused by the following spring.

How we solve it

We build beds at a working height that matches the gardener, fill them with a soil blend that drains and feeds, plumb drip into each bed, and lay out paths wide and firm enough for a walker or wheelchair where that is needed.

What is included

  • Western Red Cedar and modular powder-coated metal beds
  • Waist-high ergonomic heights and wheelchair-accessible path clearances
  • Organic living soil blends mixed for Central Texas heat
  • Integrated micro-drip grids on their own irrigation zone
  • Trellising, cages, and pollinator border planting
  • Optional seasonal planting plan for year-round harvest

How the project runs

  1. Step 1

    Layout & sun mapping

We site beds for six-plus hours of sun and comfortable circulation.

  2. Step 2

    Build

Beds fabricated and set level, with weed barrier and drainage handled underneath.

  3. Step 3

    Soil & irrigation

Living soil blend loaded and micro-drip installed before first planting.

  4. Step 4

    Planting handoff

First season planting guidance for your specific bed orientation.

Warning signs your property needs this

  • Beds that need daily watering by June
  • Wood frames rotting or bowing outward
  • Kneeling or bending required to reach the middle of the bed
  • Paths that turn to mud and become unsafe between beds
  • Vegetables that start well and then stall in the heat

Central Texas considerations

  • Our growing calendar has two seasons with a hot gap, so bed layout plans for a summer cover crop or shade.
  • Afternoon shade cloth support is designed in from the start on west-facing beds.
  • Deep beds hold moisture through watering restrictions far better than shallow ones.
  • Cedar and steel outlast pine in this climate by years.

Common questions

How much is a raised bed build?

Turnkey beds run $1,593 to $3,304 each, including soil and integrated drip.

Cedar or metal?

Cedar looks warmer and lasts well; metal runs cooler over time and holds crisp lines. We install both.

Can beds be made accessible?

Yes, waist-high builds with wide paths are our default for accessibility clients.
