Who We Serve

The neighbors our free work is written for

Yard Reboot Project, Inc. is an Austin, Texas based 501(c)(3) public charity and social enterprise. Our charter names four groups, and our crews go out for them at no cost, funded by the paid work we do the rest of the week.

Four groups, one standard of care

Low-income seniors, 65 and older

The yard did not get away from them overnight. It got away one summer at a time, as the mower got heavier, the heat got harder, and the person who used to handle the edging stopped being there to do it. We take that work back off their hands, with no cost, no repayment, and no lecture about how long it has been.

  • Grass past knee height with no equipment on the property
  • Fixed income that cannot absorb a $400 cleanup, let alone a daily fine
  • Nobody local left to call

Veterans of the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, and Coast Guard

Service-connected injury, chronic pain, and the plain arithmetic of a disability rating can put yard work permanently out of reach. We clear the hazards, open the entryways, and where it helps, build quiet, low-maintenance spaces that are restful to sit in rather than one more chore to manage.

  • Mobility limits, wheelchair or walker access blocked at the door
  • Heavy brush pressed against the home, deck, or fence line
  • A citation clock already running

Neighbors living with illness or limited mobility

Chemotherapy, a stroke, a bad fall, a long recovery. Nobody plans for the season where getting to the mailbox is the day's hard task. We handle the outside of the house so the household can spend what energy it has on getting well.

  • Recent hospitalization, surgery, or an active treatment schedule
  • A caregiver already stretched past capacity
  • Overgrowth blocking the walkway, ramp, or driveway

Households facing municipal code citations

Central Texas code fines can run from $200 to $2,000 per day, and they compound against people who could not afford the first one. We work directly with code compliance officers to pause the clock while our crews finish the remediation at no charge, so an overgrown lot never becomes the reason someone loses the house.

  • An active notice of violation or forced-cut warning
  • Fines accruing daily with no way to pay them
  • A lien threat attached to the property

This organization supports U.S. veterans and service members; however, it is not officially connected to, sponsored by, or endorsed by the U.S. Department of Defense or any branch of the Armed Forces.

What we can and cannot take on

We would rather be plain about the limits than leave someone waiting on a crew that was never coming.

  • Travis, Williamson, and Hays Counties, plus the Greater Austin communities we already run crews through.
  • Owner-occupied homes, and long-term renters where the property owner agrees in writing.
  • Work our crews can perform safely: overgrowth, brush, storm debris, access clearing, drainage hazards, and accessible garden installs. We refer out anything requiring a licensed trade.

No income paperwork, no proof of hardship, no application fee. If you are not sure whether someone qualifies, nominate them anyway and let our intake team sort it out.
