Smart drip irrigation retrofits and hydro-zoning

Spray heads lose much of their water to evaporation and wind before it reaches a root. We convert zones to subsurface drip and put a smart controller in charge of the schedule.

Drip irrigation installation and sprinkler retrofits in Austin, TX

What you get

Water reaching roots instead of sidewalks, with zones that match how each part of the yard actually dries out.

The problem

Older spray systems put the same amount of water on a shady bed and a full-sun slope, then lose a good share of it to wind and evaporation before it lands. The result is one area drowning while another stays dry, and a bill that reflects both.

How we solve it

We regroup the yard into hydro-zones, convert beds to inline drip, replace the heads that are wasting water, and set up a controller that adjusts with the season rather than running the same schedule in March and August.

What is included

  • Full system audit: coverage, pressure, leaks, and controller programming
  • Spray-to-subsurface drip conversion with pressure regulation and filtration
  • Hydro-zoning so turf, beds, and trees water on separate logic
  • Smart WiFi controllers (Rachio, Hunter Hydrawise) with weather skip
  • Backflow inspection and repair coordination
  • Written schedule tuned to current Austin Water and LCRA restrictions

How the project runs

  1. Step 1

    Diagnostic audit

A $336 audit documents every zone, pressure reading, and failure point with photos.

  2. Step 2

    Conversion plan

We prioritize the zones that waste the most water first, so savings start immediately.

  3. Step 3

    Retrofit

Zone-by-zone conversion, typically without disturbing established plantings.

  4. Step 4

    Controller setup

We program the controller, connect it to your phone, and show you how to use it.

Warning signs your property needs this

  • Wet sidewalks and driveways after the system runs
  • Mist blowing sideways off the heads on a windy morning
  • Some beds wilting while others stay soggy
  • Zones that cannot run within allowed watering hours because they take too long
  • Visible geysers, sunken heads or leaking valve boxes

Central Texas considerations

  • Austin's watering-day rules make runtime windows short, so efficiency matters more than volume.
  • Hard water clogs emitters, so filtration and pressure regulation are part of every retrofit.
  • Freeze events do reach Central Texas, so exposed components get placed and insulated accordingly.
  • Rain and freeze sensors are required by code on new work and are worth adding to older systems.

Real projects

Mueller courtyard beds

Spray heads in tight planting beds were soaking the walls of the house. Inline drip on a dedicated zone fixed both the water waste and a recurring mildew problem.

Lakeway hillside property

We split one overloaded zone into three by exposure, so the shaded terrace stopped rotting and the sunny slope stopped burning.

What your project makes possible

Mission connection

Retrofits are efficient work for our crews, which means a healthy share of each project goes straight into free yard relief in the same county.

Community relief

Qualifying seniors, disabled residents and homebound neighbors receive yard clearing and upkeep at no cost, with no paperwork and no repayment.

Veteran support

Disabled veterans are a priority group in the relief program, and we build restorative outdoor spaces designed with veteran households in mind.

Common questions

What does a drip retrofit cost?

The diagnostic audit is $336. Zone conversions typically run $1,947 to $2,891 per zone.

Does drip comply with watering restrictions?

Yes. Subsurface drip is treated far more favorably than spray under Austin Water and LCRA drought rules.

Can you keep my existing controller?

If it is sound, yes. Most clients still upgrade, because weather-skip pays for itself quickly.
